When doing a coin flip, there are 2 outcomes, H and T. 2 flips can be 4 outcomes, HH, TT, HT, and TH, 4 outcomes. 3 flips would be HHH, TTT, HHT, TTH, HTT, THH, HTH, and THT, 8 outcomes. A 1 in 8 chance (1/8) is for a 3 in a row heads.
