True, a proton gradient is generated by ATP this leads to electron flow through an electron transport chain this is called as a chemiosmotic hypothesis

Explanation:

Chemiosmotic hypothesis tells us that how ATP is made in the chloroplast. There is a membrane called thylakoid membrane where protons accumulate towards the lumen. In the membrane, water breaking takes place because of which H+ ions are produced which combine within the lumen.

Then, photo-phosphorylation takes place wherein the molecule that carries electron passes its electrons to the lumen because of which protons are released there. Next, the NADP+ reductase enzyme located on the outer side of the membrane remove protons from it and take it to the lumen because protons are required for the production of NADPH and H+ ions. This results in decreasing of protons in the stroma and increasing in the lumen. This is how the 'proton gradient' is generated.
