x = 21 and y = 10

Explanation:

Given 2 parallel lines, then

4x + 24 = 108 ( alternate exterior angles are congruent )

Subtract 24 from both sides

4x = 84 ( divide both sides by 4 )

x = 21

6y + 12 and 4x + 24 are supplementary ( straight angle ), thus

6y + 12 + 108 =180, that is

6y + 120 = 180 ( subtract 120 from both sides )

6y = 60 ( divide both sides by 6 )

y = 10
