Hello!
The separation of powers helps our democracy because it ensures that no single branch of the government can take over all power.
The separation of powers, also referred to as "checks and balances," divides the government into three branches:
- the executive branch (the president)
- the legislative branch (the house of representatives and the senate)
- the judicial branch (the judges and courts)
These three branches all have a different role in government and they all balance each other out. By having three branches to balance each other, a single branch cannot develop too much power and take over.
I hope this helps you! Have a lovely day!
- Mal
