Answer:

Adult tickets = 84

Children tickets = 33

Explanation:

At a play 117 tickets were sold.

Adult's tickets (a) cost $2.50 each and,

Children's (c) tickets cost $1.00 each

Money collected = $243

This is the simultaneous equation formed:

a + c = 117 ... (i)

2.5a + c = 243 ... (ii)

Subtracting (ii) - (i) we get;

1.5a = 126

a = 126 ÷ 1.5 = 84

So there were 84 adult's tickets sold and 117 - 84 = 33 children's tickets sold.
