This route was preferred by most people before to Panama Canal. Another way was to travel through train between the oceans. The train still runs to this day and is close to the Canal.

Panama Canal is an artificial waterway that is 82 kilometers in length that joins the Atlantic Ocean with the Pacific Ocean. The final construction of the Panama Canal was completed on the 15th of August, 1914.
