Bill has a bike that weighs 56 pounds. Magda has a bike that weighs 52 pounds.she adds a bell and basket to her bike. The bell weighs 12 ounces and the basket weighs 2 pounds 8 ounces. Does magdas bike with its new bell and basket weighs more than bills bike? Explain your reasoning

No; Magda's bike would only be 55 pounds and 4 ounces after adding the bell and basket.

Explanation:

12 ounces + 8 ounces = 20 ounces. 16 ounces make one pound. So, this would be 1 pound and 4 ounces. (20-16=4) Add 1 pound and 4 ounces to the 2 pounds and you get 3 pounds and 4 ounces. Add this to Magda's bike weight (52 pounds).This equals 55 pounds and 4 ounces, still less than Bill's bike of 56 pounds.
