The term "renaissance" was coined in the 19th Century and is considered more of a development of modern science rather than art and culture. Due to the disputed time of when the arts consciously moved forward and the period's characterization of a scientific progression, it seems to be uncertain and controversial as to what it truly can be defined as.

Answer:

There is a lot of controversy over the Renaissance because people have had their own creative freedom in art for many years and trying to put a date on such a specific time period is challenging. Many styles of these artworks changed throughout the years in a instant, and as handfuls of artists made art for their own personal enjoyment, they developed a artistic style that turned into an area that people are saying is the Renaissance.
