ANSWER:

The profit made by Leila is $28.

SOLUTION:

Given, Leila and Jo are two partners in a business.

Leila makes $4 in profits for every $5 that Jo makes.

Their total profit on the first item sold is $63,

We have to find how much profit does Leila make?

Let the profit made by Leila be n, then profit made by Jo will be 63 – n.

We know that, if Leila makes 4 ⇔ Jo makes 5

And, if Leila makes n ⇔ Jo makes 63 – n

Now by chris cross method. 4 x (63 – n) = n x 5

4 x 63 – 4n = 5n

5n + 4n = 4 x 63

9n = 4 x 9 x 7

n = 4 x 7 = 28.

Hence, profit made by Leila is $28.
