Chromosomes are the complex structures that are made up of DNA and attached histone proteins that stabilize the nucleosome structure. DNA is made up of a sequence of polynucleotides that encodes the genetic information of that organism.

The combination of three nucleotides known as triplet codon provides a unique code for a particular amino acid. After transcription of the DNA sequence into mRNA, it is sent to the cytoplasm of the cell to be translated into a particular protein. There are many proteins in a cell each having different sequence and hence they differ in their folding which give them a particular structure to perform a particular activity. Hence different DNA sequences encode the information for different sequences of amino acid in a polypeptide chain which makes the protein.
