Jacob is ordering custom shirts for his soccer team. Long-sleeved shirts cost $15 each and short-sleeved shirts cost $10 each. Jacob can spend at most $250 and he wants to order at least 20 shirts.

Let x represent the number of long-sleeved shirts. Let y represent the number of short-sleeved shirts.

Which inequalities are among the constraints for this situation?

Select each correct answer:

A. x + y ≥ 20

B. x + y ≤ 20

C. x + y ≤ 250

D. 15x + 10y ≤ 250

E. 15x + 10y ≥ 20

F. 15x + 10y ≥ 250

Answer:

Jacob is ordering custom shirts. Option A and D are constraints for situation.

Solution:

Given, Jacob is ordering custom shirts for his soccer team.

Long-sleeved shirts cost $15 each and short-sleeved shirts cost $10 each.

Jacob can spend at most $250 and he wants to order at least 20 shirts.

And, x represents the number of long-sleeved shirts. "y" represents the number of short-sleeved shirts

We have to select each correct option.

Option A:

Now, A ⇒ x + y ≥ 20

This option is correct as it states that total number of shirts is greater than or equal to 20 which means there are at least 20 shirts

Option B:

B ⇒ x + y ≤ 20

This is wrong as this opposite to the above case.

Option C:

C ⇒ x + y ≤ 250

This states that number of shirts is less than 250, which is practically right, as Jacob can’t buy more than 250 shirts with $250.

Option D:

D ⇒ 15x + 10y ≤ 250

This option is correct as 15x will given amount for long sleeved shirts and 10y will give amount for short sleevs, in total it will be less than or equal to $250.

Option E:

E ⇒ 15x + 10y ≥ 20

Just like option c this is also practically right as the money for shirts will be greater than 20 when he is buying atleast 20 shirts.

Option F:

F ⇒ 15x + 10y ≥ 250

This option is wrong just because it states opposite option D which is correct.

Hence Option A and D are constraints for situation.
