1.)Make into equation: X+X+6=40
2.)Combine like terms: 2x+6=40
3.)Simplify: X=17

Let 'another number' be X

Let 'one number' be x+6

X+X+6=72

2X+6=72

2X=66

X=33

'Another number'=33

'One number'=39
