Five yards of material is needed to make

2 curtains. This represents a proportional
relationship. If the relationship (curtains,
material) were graphed, what would the
y-coordinate be if the x-coordinate was 7?

Answer:

The y-coordinate would be 17.5

Explanation:

we know that

A relationship between two variables, x, and y, represent a proportional variation if it can be expressed in the form
y/x=k or
y=kx

In a proportional relationship the constant of proportionality k is equal to the slope m of the line and the line passes through the origin

Let

y ----->material needed in yards

x ----> number of curtains

we know that

For y=5, x=2

Find the value of the constant of proportionality k

k=y/x

substitute the given values of x and y

k=(5)/(2)=2.5

The linear equation is equal to

y=2.5x

If the x-coordinate was 7

then

substitute in the equation x=7 and solve for y

y=2.5(7)

y=17.5

therefore

The y-coordinate would be 17.5
