Adding and Subtracting Like Fraction

1. A 3-3/8 ounce scoop of strawberry ice cream

was stacked on top of a 2 7/8 ounce scoop of

chocolate ice cream. What is the total

weight of ice cream on the cone?

5.5 ounce of ice cream

Explanation:

The quantity of strawberry ice cream is:


3-(3)/(8)=(24-3)/(8)=(21)/(8)

For the chocolate ice cream we have, 2 complete ounce and 7/8 then we have to add this two quantities.


2+(7)/(8)=(16+7)/(8)=(23)/(8)

Now to know the total weight of ice cream we jus have to add the strawberry ice cream and the chocolate ice cream:


(21)/(8)+(23)/(8)=(44)/(8)=5.5

Then the total weight is 5.5 ounce of ice cream.
