Every morning Jesse runs 3 laps on a circular track. One morning the track is closed but the straight path from one side of the track is open. How many times should Jesse run across the path if he wants to run his usual distance?

Given

Jesse runs 3 laps on a circular track but she has to run let say x times across the path in order to run same distance

let r be the radius of track

therefore distance traveled during 3 laps


D=3* 2\pi * r

Distance traveled in straight path=2 r

thus Jesse has to
=(3* 2\pi r)/(2r)=3\pi =9.426times in order cover same distance
