Why was African slavery introduced to the Americas? Africa had far too many people to feed and looked for places to send them. Gold mines in Peru offered a chance to gain wealth and Africans wanted to work as miners. Sugar plantations required large numbers of workers at a low cost. Factories in New England could not get enough Europeans to come to America to work.
