One summer you charge $20 to mow a lawn and $10 to trim bushes. You want to make $300 in one week. An algebraic model for your earnings is 20x + 10y=300,where x is the number of lawns you mow and y is the number of bushes you trim. Solve for the equation for y.

Answer:

x = 10

y =5

Explanation:

Let x be the number of lawns you mow and y is the number of bushes you trim

Amount charged is $20 to mow a lawn and $10 to trim bushes.

To make $300 in one week,

20x + 10y=300---------1

From the question, the amount you charge to now a lawn = twice the amount charged to trim bushes

x = 2y

Put x = 2y in eqn 1

20(2y)+10y = 300

50y = 300

y = 300/60/= 5 bushes

x = 2y = 2×5

= 10 lawns

Answer

given,

charge to mow a lawn = $20

charge to trim bushes = $10

money made in one week = $ 300

algebraic model

20 x + 10 y = 300

writing equation for y

10 y = 300 - 20 x

dividing both side by '10'

(10)/(10)y = (300)/(10) - (20)/(10) x

y = 30 - 2 x

x(no. of mowed ) y (no. of bushes)

0 30

5 20

10 10

15 0
