5 + 3 = 8

5 - 2 = 3

let's call it xy :

x + y =8

x = y + 2

replace x in the first equation with y + 2

x + y = 8➡ y + 2 + y = 8 ➡ 2y = 6 ➡ y = 3

since x was 2 more than y then ➡ 3 + 2 = 5
