Let the function is y = ax + b ..... (1)

Now, the points (-4,-2) and (-2,-10) lie on the straight line, so the points will satisfy the equation (1).

Hence, - 2 = - 4a + b ........ (2) and

- 10 = - 2a + b ......(3)

Now, solving equations (2) and (3) we will get the values of a and b.

Hence, - 2a = 8, ⇒ a = -4

Again from equation (3), we get b = - 10 + 2a = - 10 + 2(-4) = - 18

Therefore, the linear equation is y = - 4x - 18
