Explanation:

Bungee jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge, which is 100 ft above the water surface.

And after 5 seconds he was at 8 ft above the water surface.

Therefore, in total 5 seconds, he descends by total ( 100 - 8 ) = 92 ft altitude.

Hence, the average rate of change of his altitude is given by


\frac{\textrm{Total altitude change}}{\textrm{Total time taken}} = (92)/(5) =18.4 feet per seconds. (Answer)
