Answer: The modern Indian Police is a creation of British rule. Specifically by Lord Cornwallis that was one of the three pillars of British colonial rule.

Cornwallis established a system of circles headed by a daroga. It was created to head the police organization in a district.

The police was used by British authorities to suppress the national uprising, giving it a predatory character and an unsympathetic attitude which still languishes even after the colonial rule is long gone.
