For this case we have that by definition, the perimeter of a rectangle is given by:

P = 2l + 2w

Where:

l: It is the length of the rectangle

w: It is the width of the rectangle

In this case we have to:

l = 5x + 2\\w = 4x + 6

Then, the perimeter of the rectangle is given by:

P = 2 (5x + 2) +2 (4x + 6)

We apply distributive property:

P = 10x + 4 + 8x + 12

We add similar terms:

P = 18x + 16

Thus, the perimeter of the rectangle is given by:
18x + 16 inches.

ANswer:

The perimeter of the rectangle is given by:
18x + 16 inches.
