The following are the four reason why Gypsies have been overlooked in Holocaust Studies:
- There is a lack of reliable information especially demographic data about the Gypsies during the Holocaust. This is believed due to the bad record-keeping and administration by the Nazis.
- The memoirs documented are very few so much that it makes it difficult for scholars to use the information in studies since it cannot be proven for sure. The example is the varying information available on the estimated number of victims.
- Many Roma natives are not cooperative when it comes to research since they still believe that any document will lead to persecution.
- Roma is not recognized as a separate ethnic group because they have been identified with the majority of the population in Europe.
