Number of Students who like chicken = 30

Number of students who like pasta = 18

Now, Let E: Event of children preferring chicken

Then ,
P(E) =  \frac{\textrm{Number of favorable outcomes}}{\textrm{Total outcome}}

⇒ P(E) = 30/ 240

P(Students who like chicken) = 1/8

So, the 1/8 is the probability of any student who is surveyed randomly ,likes chicken.
