Answer: 6

This is the GCF of the numerator and denominator


(12)/(18) = (12/ 6)/(18/ 6) = (2)/(3)

For visual learners, imagine a pizza split into 18 slices. Take 12 of them and you'll have 2/3 of the whole thing. See below.

Notice each third consist of 6 slices, which is exactly what we're dividing by in the previous section above.
