Suppose an airplane is flying 11,000 feet above the ground. Another plane is directly above at 35,000 feet above the ground. How far apart are the airplanes?

If plane 1 is flying at 11,000 feet and plane 2 is flying at 35, 000 feet from the ground which is a common reference point for both planes, the the formula for calculating how far the planes are would be:

Distance between planes= (Elevation of Plane 2-Elevation of Plane 1 )

(350000-11000)= 24,000 feet

This means that Plane 2 is 24,000 feet above Plane 1
