In a class of 100 students there are 10 who speak Chinese, 20 who speak French, 30 who speak Spanish, 8 who speak both French and Spanish, and 3 who speak all three of these languages. How many students in the class do not speak any of these three languages?

29 students do not speak any of those three languages.

10+20+30+8+3=71

100 total students - 71 students who speak french, spanish, or chinese = 29 students that don’t speak those languages.

Answer:

45 students.

Explanation:

This is because if you add up 10, 20, and 30, you can immediately remove 60 students which holds 40 remaining. However, it also states that there are 8 who speak both and 3 who speak all. Assuming those students were placed into the following categories, you can add back 5 students. It is not 12 students as the 3 who speak all could also be considered as those who speak both.

Sorry if this is confusing.
