Answer = 23 and 31
Explaination: You have to do 54-8 which is 46. Then you divide 46/2 which is 23. Then you add 8 back to one of the 23’s. So the answer is 23 and 31

Answer:

The smaller number is 8 less than the larger number. The numbers are 23 and 31

Solution:

Let the bigger of the two numbers whose sum is 54 be x

Let the other number i.e., the smaller number be y

Also, it is given the smaller number is 8 less than the larger number i.e., x – 8

Thus, y = x - 8

Now, it is given that the sum of the two numbers is 54

Thus, it can be written in the equation form as:

x + y = 54

(x) + (x - 8) = 54

2x - 8 = 54

2x = 62

x = 31

Therefore, for x i.e, the larger number equal to 31, y i.e, the small number equal to y = x - 8

i.e, y = 31 - 8 = 23

Thus, the numbers, as mentioned above, whose sum is given as 54 are 23 and 31.
