Suppose that the amount of time it takes to build a highway varies directly with the length of the highway and inversely with the number of workers. Suppose also that it takes 200 workers 3 weeks to build 2 miles of highway. How many miles of highway could 250 workers build in 6 weeks?

Answer:

W = 5 miles

Step-by-step explanation:

Work done by 200 worker in 3 week is equivalent to build 2 miles highway

So we will have

work done by each worker in 3 week is equivalent to

W_1 = (2 miles)/(200)

W_1 = (1)/(100) mile/worker

now work done in each week is given as

w = (1)/(100 * 3 week)

w = (1)/(300) miles/(person* week)

now we have to find the work done by 250 workers in 6 weeks

so we will have

W = (1)/(300) * 6 * 250 miles

W = 5 miles
