12 gallons of water fill a tank to 3/4 capicity. What is the capicity of the tank? If the tank is then filled to capicity, how many half-gallons bottles can be filled with the water in the tank?

The total capacity of the tank = 16 gallons

32 bottles can be filled with the water in the tank.

Explanation:

Let the total capacity of the tank = K gallons

Now here, according to the question

3/4 capacity of the tank = 12 gallons


(3)/(4)  * K = 12\\orK = 12 * (4)/(3)

or, K = 16 Gallons

So, the total capacity of the tank is 16 gallons.

Now, capacity of 1 bottle = 0.5 gallon= (1/2) gallon

So, number of bottles filled = Capacity of each bottle x Total capacity of tank

n = 0.5 gallon x 16 gallons = 32 bottles

Hence, 32 bottles can be filled with the water in the tank.
