The sum of three numbers is 16. The largest number is equal to the sum of the other two, and 3 times the smallest number is 1 more than the largest. Find the three numbers.

Answer: sum of three numbers is 16:

x+y+z=16

The largest number is equal to the sum of the other two

x=y+z

3 times the smallest number is 1 more than the largest

3z=x+1

x=largest. z=smallest
