Before Kodachrome, color film usually had dyes that were directly printed on them.

Say What Here's why...

All Color films have dyes printed exactly on the film stock and the Kodachrome process has the dye only added in the development process and even though it probably would fade over time it might last up to 100 years if stored correctly.
