April made 40 cookies for the upcoming bake sale. She made 3/5 of the cookies chocolate chip and 1/4 of them are peanut butter cookies. How many chocolate chip and peanut butter cookies are there ALL TOGETHER?

Would it be 24 chocolate chip and 4 peanut butter for a total of 28 cookies?

Answer:

There are 34 cookies altogether. (24 chocolate, 10 peanut butter.)

Explanation:

So, we know that 5 and 4 are both factors of 40, so we can basically multiply the fractions by the number that will give us 40 as the denominator.

3/5=8*3/5*8=24/40

1/4=10*1/4*10=10/40

24/40+10/40=34/40

April would have 34 chocolate chip and peanut butter cookies all together. (There are 24 chocolate chip cookies and 10 peanut butter cookies.)
