Answer:

L = 2*6 - 8 = 12 - 8 = 4

W = 6*6 + 1 = 36 + 1 = 37

That's the math.

Explanation:

P = 2*(L + W)

L = 2x - 8

W= 6x + 1

P = 82

2(2x - 8 + 6x+1) = 82 Combine terms in the brackets.

2(8x - 7) = 82 Divide both sides by 2

2(8x - 7)/2 = 82/2

8x - 7 = 41 Add 7 to both sides

8x - 7 +7 = 41+7

8x = 48 Divide by 8

8x/8 = 48/8

x = 6
