Suppose the official weather station in a city reports having receiving 0.52 inches of precipitation over a 24-hour period. If all the precipitation fell as snow, and if we assume a normal water equivalent ratio of 10:1, how much snow did this city receive?

Answer:

5.2 inches of snow

Step-by-step explanation:

In order to calculate this we just have to multiply the number of inches of rain that it was expected to fall, and then multiply it by the ratio of snow to water and multiply it to calculate the inches of snow that it would fall:

x inches of snow:0.52 inches of water= 10 inches of snow:1 inch of water

x=10x.52

x=5.2 inches of snow
