Sarah's age is twice that of her sister. When you add Sarah's age to her sister's age, you get 33. How old is each sister?

a), Let Sarah's sisters age be x, and Sarah's age be y

since Sarah is twice older than her sister, this can be expressed as; y=2×x=2x

And if we sarah's age(x) to hers sisters age(y)=33, this can be expressed as the equation, x+y=33

The equation is x+y=33

b). Replacing y with 2x in the equation

x+2x=33

3x/3=33/3

x=11

y=2x=2×11=22

Sarah's age represented by y, is 22 years from the solution above and her sister's age represented by x, is 11 years old.
