For this case we have to mix:

\frac {1} {2}cup of cream

\frac {3} {4} cup of milk

Then the combined mixture is of:

\frac {1} {2} + \frac {3} {4} = \frac {4 * 1 + 2 * 3} {2 * 4} = \frac {4 + 6} {8} = \frac {10 } {8} = \frac {5} {4} cups

If you use
\frac {1} {8} cup of the mixture to make a batch of soup, then we have:

\frac {\frac {5} {4}} {\frac {1} {8}} = \frac {5 * 8} {4 * 1} = \frac {40} {4} = 10

Thus, 10 batches of soup can be made.

Answer:

10 batches of soup
