Answer:

In 1848, the first meeting of women's rights was held in Seneca Falls, USA, at which the Declaration of Sentiments was adopted. In the Declaration, women demanded the right to dispose of their property, custody of children in the event of divorce, expanded divorce opportunities, better access to education and employment and, of course, the right to vote. American women, with their vocal demand for women's rights, become a role model for European women, who began their organized struggle in the 1860s. in England. Then they get the right to vote at the lowest level, in the municipalities.

In the mid 19th century women are starting to enroll in medical colleges in European countries. But they have to invest twice as much effort in education as their male counterparts because they have special oral exams. In addition, they can only practice medicine in partnership with a male doctor.

In the second half of the 19th c. suffragettes, a women's rights movement, were established in England. The founder was Lydia Becker and the most famous frontrunner was Emmeline Pankhurst from the early 20th century, who organized numerous demonstrations and was arrested several times.

World War I changed things. In war, men fight, and women nurture, expect, and mourn. But at the same time, they are entering men's fields and occupations, managing plows, cars, trams, making grenades at gun factories, managing their budget, handling money, receiving pay, protesting their increase, moving everywhere, smoking, giving themselves freedom. After the war, there was a desire to restore the old order and women were encouraged to return home because the household suffers if women deal with other things and rob men of their jobs. In the aftermath of the war, several European countries gave women the right to vote as a gift and reward for the war effort (Great Britain, Poland, USSR, Germany…), although in 1893 New Zealand already gave women the right to vote.
