Tom and Jose entered a pie eating contest of the

fair. Tom came in first place eating 8/9 of a pie. Jose took third place eating 2/3 of a pie. Who ate more? How much more?

the LCM of 9 and 3 is 9.

Multiply 2/3 by 3/3 to get 6/9

8/9 already has 9 as a denominator

8/9 is more than 6/9, so Tom ate more. 8-6 is 2, so he ate 2/9 of a pie more.
