The amount of water wasted from a leaking faucet is directly

proportional to the time that the faucet leaks. If 96 oz of water
are wasted i n 30 min. how much water is wasted i n 5 min?

So, Volume (V) of wasted water ∝ Time (t)

V = kt ...... (1) , where the constant is k (Called the proportionality constant).

Given 96 oz of water is wasted in 30 minutes.

Hence, from equation (1), we get, 96 = 30k, ⇒ k = 3.2.

So, the equation (1) becomes V = 3.2t ........ (2)

Now, putting t =5 mins, from equation (2), we get

V =3.2 ×5 =16 oz

Therefore, 16 oz of water is wasted in 5 minutes. (Answer)
