To find this, you must first of all make y the subject of the formula i.e

from the equation subtract 7x from both side

which implies: 7x - 7x +y = 9 - 7x

y = 9 - 7x

Note: If M1 denote a slope and M2 another slope,for the two slopes to be perpendicular M1 = -1/M2

The slope in the above solution is -7 so the slope of a line perpendicular to it is -1 /-7 which is 1/7
