This question is a little involved, and I am struggling with it. If anyone could assist me with it I would be very much appreciative.

A cyclist, riding at a constant speed of 5.0 m/s, sees a flash of lightning. Wanting to get home quickly, she accelerates at 1.0 m/s2 for 4.0 s and then rides at a constant speed for 30.0 s. If she then takes a further 12.0 to slow down uniformly to rest, the total distance traveled after seeing the lightning flash is…?

Answer:

The answer to your question is: d = 352 m

Step-by-step explanation:

I hope it helps you

a)

vo = 5 m/s

a = 1 m/s2

t = 4s

d = vot + at²/2

d = (5)(4) + (1)(4)²/2

d = 20 + 8

d = 28 m

b)

speed is constant = v

vf² = vo² + 2ad

vf² = 5² + 2(1)(28)

vf² = 25 + 56

vf² = 81

vf = 9 m/s

d = vt

d = 9 x 30

d = 270 m

c)

t = 12 s

vo = 9 m/s

vf = 0 m/s

d = (vf + vo)/2 x t

d = (9/2)12

d = 54 m

total distance = 28 + 270 + 54

= 352 m
