So first the glycolysis process is the process when a glucose molecule is broken down by enzymes in order to make pyruvate, this acid provides energy to cells.

So, now since we know what glycolysis is, we know that it breaks down glucose which is indeed basically sugar.

Therefore the answer here would be 4. simple sugars.

Glycolysis is a process in cellular respiration and it is the way by which cells derive energy. This process converts each molecule of glucose that contains 6 carbon atoms is converted into two molecules of pyruvate having 3 carbon atoms each.

The process occurs in 10 steps and is catalyzed by several enzymes. The process has two main phases, the energy requiring phase and energy releasing phase. In the energy requiring phase two ATP molecules are used up to convert glucose into two phosphate containing sugars having 3 carbon each. These being unstable get converted to two pyruvates having 3 carbon atoms each.

This process releases 4 ATP molecules. Thus the whole process releases two ATP molecules taking into account that two ATPs were used up in the first phase.
