When a person drinks an excessive amount of alcohol, that individual becomes drunk or intoxicated, a condition resulting in a lack of muscular control and coordination. Specifically, how does the alcohol cause this condition?

Ethanol is the intoxicating part of alcohol and the molecules are so small that they pass into the gaps between brain cells. When this happens it can interfere with the neurotransmitters that enable all the brain’s activities.

So, in simpler words: Alcohol affects the brains neurotransmitters, which are chemicals in the brain that carry messages to other parts of the body and tell it what to do.

Hope this helps you!
