Summary of a short story
1. At the beginning of a story, you learn that Tommy is given a puppy he has always wanted. He names him Max.
2. A little later in the story, Tommy finds that Max has become very sick and he worries about his health.
3. His family takes Max to Dr. Thomas, a veterinarian. Dr. Thomas gives Max some medication, but tells Tommy to hope for the best because Max is very sick.
4. After a few days pass, Max begins to get some of his energy back. Dr. Thomas says that Max will be back to normal very soon.
5. Finally, in a little more than a week, Max is running and playing the way he was when Tommy first got him

Jo's Summer
"How was the last day of school?" Jo's mom asked.
"Fine" Jo sighed.
"I remember being a lot happier when school let out," her mom teased.
Jo shrugged. "Yippee," she said indifferently. She had been sulking since her mother told her she would have to spend the summer with her grandparents and her other cousins-four boys. With school ending, she would be leaving the next day.
"Jo, you'll have fun at your grandparents' farm," her mother said with a note of concern in her voice.
"I'll be the only girl," Jo complained. "I wish they lived in town." Jo's grandparents owned a small farm. They didn't actually do any farming, but they liked living in the country. Jo didn't. There wasn't another girl within miles.
"That reminds me," Jo's mom said. "Your grandmother sent me this flyer. She thought you might be interested."
"Summer swim team?" Jo's mom said. "You know i'm not a very strong swimmer."
"Well, this is about the only activity that is happening in the area this summer for kids your age. -
