The pseudomurein is a polymer similar to peptidoglycan but has L amino acids in the cross-links rather than D-amino acids as found in peptidoglycan. It is called pseudomurein due to its similarities with murein (peptidoglycan) which in turn makes the cell walls of bacteria.
