) Tim and Judy mix two kinds of feed for pedigreed dogs. They wish to make 25 pounds of feed worth $0.32 per pound by mixing one kind worth $0.14 per pound with another worth $0.39 per pound. How many pounds of the cheaper kind should they use in the mix? (Round to the nearest pound.)

food 1 = x

and food 2 = y

so

total cost of food 1 is = 0.14 x

total cost of food 2 is = 0.39 y

total cost when mix (x+y) is = 25 × 0.32 = 8

we know here x + y = 25

so y = 25 -x

so adding total cost

0.14 x + 0.39 y = 8

put here y value

0.14 x + 0.39 ( 25 - x) = 8

x = 7 pounds

and

y = 25 - 7

y = 18 pounds

so we use 18 pound use cheaper mix and 7 pound of expensive mix
