Translating one language into another can have unexpected results. On a recent trip to Poland, the diplomat's welcoming speech was greeted with laughter instead of the customary polite applause. It seems that he intended to greet the audience with the Polish expression for "the United States sends its welcome." However, what it came out to mean was, "the United States sends you a Polish ham!"

Answer:

Method of development was used in this paragraph is Cause and Effect

Explanation:

The passage is constructed in such a way that it explains the problem first with a leading example. In the given example, the definition was given stating that the translation can sometimes be funny. The example given explained an exclusive example how translating (cause) became a funny sentence (effect).

Hence the paragraph development was constructed in cause and effect way. Despite having an example, this sentence will not be considered as an example because an example sentence only has an example but not any cause or reason. And the same way as in sequence of events and comparison and contrast. Since the cause and effect was discussed in the first place, this is a simple cause and effect example.
