Vector A S has a magnitude of 8.00 units and makes an angle of 45.0° with the positive x-axis. Vector B S also has a magnitude of 8.00 units and is directed along the negative x-axis. Using graphical methods, fi nd (a) the vector sum A S 1 B S and (b) the vector difference A S 2 B

Answer:

A) First we need to decompose the vector A in x-axis and y-axis:

A = 4√(2)i+ 4√(2)j

And also we have for vector B:

B = -8i

To find A + B:

A+B = 4√(2)i+ 4√(2)j-8i = (4√(2)-8)i+ 4√(2)j

B)

A-2B = 4√(2)i+ 4√(2)j-16i = (4√(2)-16)i+ 4√(2)j
