then plug that in for y in the second equation and solve for x.

4x + 2(-3x + 7) =16

distribute the 2

4x - 6x +14 = 16

combine like terms

- 2x + 14 = 16

subtract 14 from both sides

-2x = 2

divide by -2

X= -1

now plug in x = -1 into the first equation to find y.

y= -3(-1) + 7 = 3 + 7 = 11
